Point System

Our program is based on a point system which is how we will both discipline negative behavior and reward positive behavior. It is also how residents progress through the phases of the program. This is how the point system works: there are five categories points are rewarded in.

  • Compliance- This is in reference to curfew and chores.
  • Work Ethic- This includes going to work on time and not missing.
  • Respect- This is respect for the people around you. This also includes the language you choose to use. Profanity is disrespectful to many people. Watch your mouth.
  • Attitude- This is a review of your general attitude toward people and the program.
  • Meeting Attendance- Were you where you were supposed to be.

1 point is awarded in each of these categories per week you are in the program. On an average week you should gain five points. However, two things can happen to affect your points total:

  1. You can lose points for breaking rules, negative behavior or other disciplinary reasons.
  2. You can be rewarded with extra points for personal growth and positive behavior.

Points will be posted weekly. If you are let go from a job for poor work ethic or failure to show up, you will be deducted five points per week until another job is secured.

Phases

Phase I

  • Take care of all social needs. Residents will be assisted in getting proper identification, social security card, food stamps and any other social needs.
  • During Phase I, all residents must receive permission before leaving the house for any reason other than work or meetings. Permission may be obtained in three ways; by asking the house manager, Kenny or Jereme. This is not to restrict. The purpose is to begin the habit of making plans for the day. (Alcoholics Anonymous p.86-88)
  • Residents will sign out on the white board located by the back door. Write name, where you are going who gave permission.
  • Until employment is obtained residents must attend two twelve step meetings per day.
  • Residents are required to attend the Monday, Thursday and Friday night meetings at the By the Book group located at the University Church of Christ. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm. The only acceptable excuse for not attending these meetings is a work related absence.
  • During phase I residents are not allowed to have a cell phone. Phone calls may be made and received on the house phone.

In order to complete phase I, residents must acquire twenty points, complete a fifth step with a sponsor and wait at minimum of thirty days. Sponsor must confirm that the fifth step is complete. After all phase I requirements are met, residents may have their own cell phone and are eligible for one overnight pass per month. You will be informed when you are transitioning to phase II.

Phase II

During phase II residents will need to:

  1. Complete Financial Peace University.
  2. Complete the 12 steps with their sponsor.
  3. Continue with the point system.

Residents will need to complete all of the above and accumulate 60 points to move on to phase III.

Phase III

After completion of phase II residents will be able to have three overnight passes per month. Residents in phase III will need to:

  1. Chair a meeting on a weekly basis.
  2. Complete a Starting Point group.
  3. Develop an exit strategy.
  4. Continue with the point system.

During phase III residents who do not lose any points in a given week will receive $25 per week put into savings to go toward the exit plan. This will not exceed $300. Residents must complete the program to receive this money.
